Behind the Scenes: May ‘25

As spring turns the corner into early summer, things have been blooming with energy here at Atlantis! From grassroots sport to class expansion, new faces to facility fixes - here’s what’s been happening behind the scenes at your community-run leisure centre:

Mila and Robyn having fun at Gymnastics!

Community Programme - ‘all go!’
This month has been full of events that have kept our younger community members moving and bringing their characteristic energy! Our Gymnastics camps were once again a huge hit on Mondays, with sessions full of fun, flips, and progress. These actually act as a bit of a sneak peek because we plan to share details about our Summer Camps very soon! - eyes peeled for more information to follow.

We were also thrilled to welcome FAIR along for a Mini Movers session earlier in the month, hosted by Atlantis here at the Centre. These playful, fun events are a fantastic way to support early physical development and inclusive community connection.

Meanwhile, the Argyll & Bute Badminton Junior League brought more than 50 young players and supporters through our doors for a brilliant day of competition. It’s always inspiring to see so much talent and passion on the courts!

The energy didn’t stop there - Lorn Volleyball also hosted a friendly tournament this month. From spiking to serving or even simply spectating, it was a great reminder of how sport can bring people together.

Centre Life - ‘a weekly rhythm’
Our Wednesday Aeromix class continues to grow in popularity - so much so that we’ve increased capacity to 40 participants! This class was recently introduced as part of the Elevate & Stay Active timetable and has proven to be a big success. The class forms just one part of our ongoing story with Lorn & Oban Healthy Options.  It’s fantastic to watch our community join together, work on their health & wellbeing and build important social connections.

We also welcomed two new faces to our coaching family this month. Daniel Campbell joined the Oban Swim School team, contributing his expertise to our Easter Camps and beyond. Daniel was joined by Anna Forgrieve who became part of our PlaySport coaching team, helping nurture the next generation of athletes. Welcome to the team Daniel and Anna!

Facilities - ‘know your building’
Some small but mighty updates on the facilities front this month. Our trusty tractor is back in action after requiring repairs. You might have noticed the little orange machine buzzing around – we use it to help keep our field and tennis courts in great shape, cutting grass and sweeping surfaces to ensure everything’s in top condition. All repaired, serviced and back in the game now.

Also, a small note on the much-anticipated new water tank. We’ve been keeping you up to speed on what sounds like a small project but is really quite a major undertaking. Well, this month we can reveal: the tank has arrived! Unfortunately, that’s about all we can say for now - but it’s here and we’ll keep you posted as progress continues!
